Suenson Statue

Maritime memorial at Nyboder in Copenhagen

The statue of Edouard Suenson (Statuen af Edouard Suenson) is located by Nyboder and was created by the sculptor Theobald Stein.

The memorial was unveiled in 1889 and honours the naval officer and reformer who played a key role in the development of the modern Danish navy. The monument consists of a bust of Suenson mounted on a tall pedestal, decorated with a laurel wreath, a ship’s prow, and Suenson’s coat of arms. A pair of lions rest at the base of the pedestal. The sculpture is situated at the edge of Nyboder on the triangular square where Borgergade and Store Kongensgade meet – an area of strong maritime and historical significance.
