David and Moses sculptures in Copenhagen
The statues at Church of Our Lady depict David and Moses and adorn the entrance on each side of Church of Our Lady in central Copenhagen. The statues were created by Jens Adolf Jerichau and Hermann Wilhelm Bissen, respectively.
The statue of David, positioned to the left when facing the church, was installed in 1860 and represents the biblical figure David, known for defeating Goliath and later becoming king of the Israelites. The statue of Moses, positioned to the right, was installed in 1853. In 2008, the David statue was both struck by a vehicle and stolen. The original sculpture was never recovered, so the current statue is a cast of the original.
