Memorial for the Reformation in Denmark

The Reformation Monument (Reformationsmonumentet) stands on Bispetorvet next to the Church of Our Lady in Copenhagen and was unveiled in 1943 to mark the 400th anniversary of the Reformation in Denmark.

The monument consists of a group of bronze figures created by sculptor Max Andersen, depicting Martin Luther, King Christian III, and other key figures of the Reformation. The sculptures are placed on a granite base with inscriptions describing the significance of the Reformation for Denmark, including the introduction of the Lutheran state church. The monument symbolises religious renewal, cultural heritage, and Denmark’s transition from Catholicism to Protestantism in the 16th century.
