Thorvaldsens Museum

Art museum and cultural heritage

Thorvaldsen’s Museum is located centrally on Slotsholmen and is dedicated to the works of the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen.

Constructed between 1838 and 1848 in a neoclassical style, the building features a symmetrical design adorned with friezes and pilasters, giving the museum an elegant and recognisable appearance. Its yellow facade and Greek-inspired style make it stand out beautifully among the many prominent buildings in the area. Inside, the museum houses Thorvaldsen’s sculptures, reliefs, drawings, and personal collections, making it an important centre for Danish art and cultural history. The architecture combines simplicity with monumentality and stands as a key cultural and architectural landmark on Slotsholmen.
