The Royal Library
A library and historic architectural gem
The Royal Library (Det Kongelige Bibliotek) is located centrally in Copenhagen on Slotsholmen and serves as Denmark’s national library and the university library for the University of Copenhagen.
The building consists of several historic structures from different periods, combined with modern additions such as the Black Diamond. The facades feature classical details, beautiful stone and brick materials, and large windows, while the modern sections have smooth surfaces and glass elements that create a contrast between old and new. The library houses reading rooms, archives, collections, and exhibition areas and functions as a center for research, study, and cultural events.

Since the Black Diamond draws most of the attention from the harbor side, you should step into the Royal Library Garden, where you can admire the beautiful entrance to the Royal Library with the lush greenery in the foreground.
