Cirkelbroen
Sculptural and artistic bridge in copenhagen
Cirkelbroen (The Circle Bridge) is one of Copenhagen’s most distinctive pedestrian bridges, located by Christianshavn along the inner harbor.
The bridge opened in 2015 and was designed by internationally renowned artist Olafur Eliasson, drawing inspiration from the world of sailing ships. Its structure consists of five circular platforms of varying sizes, connected by slender masts that evoke the appearance of ship rigging, creating a sculptural and contemporary architectural expression. Cirkelbroen encourages visitors to slow down, as the circular platforms form natural places to pause and enjoy views of the harbor and surrounding architecture. Today, the bridge serves as an important link on the Harbor Route, used daily by pedestrians and cyclists, and stands as a modern landmark on Copenhagen’s waterfront.

Cirkelbroen’s striking design, which – unlike most other bridges – sits above the bridge deck rather than beneath it, is best experienced up close from the bridge itself. If you want to view the bridge as a whole, the best vantage points are from the opposite side of the harbor near the Black Diamond or from one of the canal edges at Christianshavn.
