Equestrian Statue of Christian X
Historic monument of the former king
The equestrian statue of Christian X (Rytterstatuen af Christian X) stands at Skt. Annæ Plads in Copenhagen. It was created by sculptor Einar Utzon‑Frank and unveiled in 1954.
The statue depicts the king on horseback, dressed in uniform, symbolising his role as a leader during the occupation in World War II, when he was known for frequently riding through the city in the mornings.
The statue highlights Christian X’s significance in Danish history and serves as a central element of the square, combining monumental proportions with realistic sculptural work. The simple plinth emphasises the detailed bronze horse and the figure of the king.
