Isaiah Church

Historic church with towers and mosaics

Isaiah Church, located at Malmøgade, is an impressive historicist cruciform church constructed between 1903 and 1912, designed by architect Thorvald Jørgensen.

Built in the Late Romanesque Revival style, the church features red brick walls with a granite base and cornerstones, a central tower crowned by a pyramidal spire over the crossing, and two western entrance towers also topped with pyramidal roofs. The main entrance is accessed via a broad granite stair and portal, adorned with archangel sculptures by Anders Bundgaard. Inside, the bright whitewashed interior features barrel vaults in the nave, groin vaults in the aisles, and exquisite glass mosaics by Joakim Skovgaard from 1914 behind the altar. With its robust architectural expression, granite detailing, and decorative artistry, Isaiah Church stands as a striking cultural landmark at the northern part of the city centre.
