The War Museum

500 years of Danish military history

The War Museum is located in the heart of Copenhagen in the historic Tøjhus from 1604 and provides a fascinating insight into Denmark’s military and defense history over more than 500 years.

The museum offers exciting exhibitions with everything from armor and swords to tanks and modern weapons technology. Here you can get up close to a real Leopard tank, explore the models of historic warships from the Danish navy, explore the stories of 21 Danish wars over the past 500 years and take a closer look at the War Museum’s treasury, which contains unique war treasures from around the world. The War Museum conveys both the famous battles of the past against Sweden, England and Germany and today’s battles on international missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.

Visitors can experience unique objects throughout history and up to today’s international missions. Interactive exhibitions and authentic stories provide a vivid picture of how war has affected Denmark and the rest of the world – both militarily, politically and humanly.
