Bronze sculpture lions at Jarmers Tower
Løve & Løvinde (Lion & Lioness) is a sculpture of two bronze lions and a wild boar, located in front of Jarmers Tower at Jarmers Plads. It was created by the French sculptor Auguste Caïn and installed in 1889.
The sculpture, a copy of the original, depicts a male and a female lion fighting over a wild boar. The male lion tries to prevent the female from reaching the prey, symbolising that power in nature belongs to the strongest. The work is placed somewhat unusually on a cramped square in one of the busiest intersections in the city, which means it is often overlooked.

Due to the sculpture’s noisy and chaotic surroundings, it is best experienced up close, from the pedestrian area within the intersection. Here, the sculpture stands in the foreground with the historic Jarmers Tower in the background, one of the few remaining ruins of Copenhagen’s old city walls.
