Christian IV Statue at Børsen
Royal monument in Copenhagen
Christian IV Statue (Christian IV-statuen) stands in front of Børsen in Copenhagen, honoring King Christian IV, known for his significant contributions to the city’s development and architecture. The statue was created by sculptor Hans Pauli Olsen and unveiled in 2019.
It depicts Christian IV standing in period attire with symbols of royal authority. The monument is more than just a statue of the former Danish king; it also depicts three of the buildings he initiated – Rosenborg Castle, the Round Tower, and Børsen – all three positioned upside down beneath him. The statue is cast in bronze on a granite plinth, which frames his figure and underscores his importance in Copenhagen’s history.

Currently, the statue is best viewed with Christiansborg Palace as a backdrop, even though the king did not oversee its construction. Once Børsen is rebuilt, it will provide a more historically fitting background for the statue.
