Marmorbroen

Historic marble bridge in Copenhagen

Marmorbroen (The Marble Bridge) is one of Copenhagen’s most elegant and historic bridges, serving as the ceremonial entrance to Christiansborg Palace on Slotsholmen.

Built in 1744 as part of the original baroque design surrounding the palace, the bridge is named after the light marble details that decorate its structure. With its balustrade, classical architectural elements, and the distinctive gatehouses flanking each side, Marmorbroen stands as a remarkable example of 18th-century Danish architecture. From the bridge, visitors can enjoy views over Slotsholms Canal and the surrounding historic buildings, making it a favorite spot for sightseeing and photography. Today, Marmorbroen is a protected cultural landmark and an iconic link between the city center and the political heart of Denmark.
