Langebro
The largest bridge in Copenhagen’s harbor
Langebro (Long Bridge) is one of Copenhagen’s most famous and heavily trafficked bridges, connecting the city centre with Amager across the harbor.
The current bridge was inaugurated in 1954, replacing several earlier versions of Langebro that have existed at the site since the late 17th century. The bridge serves as an important traffic link for cars, cyclists, and pedestrians, while also providing access to the harbour areas and views over the water. Langebro is not known for its beauty, but for being the largest and busiest bridge in Copenhagen, carrying traffic from H.C. Andersens Boulevard to Amager Boulevard and back. In 2019, Langebro gained a “little brother” in the form of Lille Langebro, which has taken over part of the pedestrian and cyclist traffic. The combination of historical significance, functionality, and central location makes Langebro one of Copenhagen’s key traffic and viewpoint locations.

As with many of the other bridges, the view is best from the top of the bridge, but if you want to see the bridge in its entirety, it can be admired from Kalvebod Bølge or from the opposite side of the water at Islands Brygge.
