Slotsholms Canal

A historic canal with beautiful architecture

Slotsholms Canal runs along the southern side of Slotsholmen, connecting Frederiksholm Canal to Copenhagen Harbour.

The canal was established in the late 17th century and is surrounded by some of Copenhagen’s most prominent buildings, including Christiansborg Palace, the National Bank, and the Stock Exchange. Along the canal, you will find several bridges, such as Højbro, Holmens Bro, and Børsbroen, connecting Slotsholmen with the rest of the city. Slotsholms Canal is a popular spot for both locals and tourists who wish to experience Copenhagen’s history and enjoy a peaceful walk along the water. The area is also used for boat tours and other water activities, allowing visitors to experience the canal from the water. With its central location and historical importance, Slotsholms Canal is an important maritime and recreational area in Copenhagen.

There is certainly no shortage of beautiful viewpoints around the Slotsholms Canal. We would like to highlight the views from both Børsbroen and Højbro as the most striking. In addition, it is possible to go up into the tower at Christiansborg, where you can truly take in the canal and large parts of the Inner City.
