St. Peters Church
Copenhagen’s oldest church building
St. Peters Church is located in the heart of Copenhagen’s city center and is the city’s oldest surviving church.
Originally built in the 13th century as a Catholic parish church, it was handed over to the German-speaking Lutheran congregation after the Reformation and has since served as the center of the German St. Petri congregation in Denmark. The church has undergone several restorations and today features a striking blend of Gothic and Baroque architecture, with red brick walls, a tall tower, and a richly decorated interior with family chapels and historic epitaphs. Still an active place of worship, the church is known for its classical music concerts, royal connections, and important place in Copenhagen’s cultural heritage. It is where faith, tradition, and history converge in one of the city’s most atmospheric buildings.
