Church with openness and community
Jerusalem Church, located on Rigensgade in the historic center of Copenhagen, serves as the main church of the United Methodist Church in Denmark and stands as a testament to the city’s religious diversity.
The current building was inaugurated in 1915 and designed by architect Jens Christian Kofoed in a Neo-Gothic style featuring red brickwork, pointed arches, and a tall spired tower that rises above the street. Replacing an earlier church from 1866, Jerusalem Church is today an active parish and a vibrant hub for worship, culture, music, and inclusive Christian fellowship. The church interior is welcoming and filled with light, offering a warm atmosphere in a historic and architecturally rich setting. With a focus on openness and community, Jerusalem Church plays a unique role in Copenhagen’s spiritual landscape.

The Jerusalem Church is best viewed from the beginning of Krusemyntegade or Gernersgade. However, an interesting detail can be seen from Stokhusgade, where the connection between the yellow church office and the red church wall creates a fascinating mix of very different architectural styles.
