Christianshavns Færgecafé

Legendary ferry café in Christianshavn

With its iconic yellow facade on the corner of Strandgade and Wilders Kanal, Christianshavns Færgecafé is an institution in historic Christianshavn.

The house’s roots go back to 1850, when the building was inhabited by sailors, and there was, among other things, a home distillery on the premises. The proud sailor traditions are still visible today, where owner Erik and the team – called Captain & Crew by regulars – have served good Danish food with well-selected specialty beers and more than 30 homemade schnapps since 2013.

Enjoy, for example, a ‘Moby Dick’, horseradish schnapps, with a Wiener schnitzel with (ferry) boy, a ‘Christianshavnerurt’, schnapps with tarragon, with Erik’s famous curry herring or a soft ‘Mom Liss’ blackcurrant schnapps with camembert fries. The menu is classic Danish, and on both the open-faced sandwich menu and the evening menu, craftsmanship, season and quality are paramount.

The Ferry Café has room for everyone; from vegetarian open sandwiches to fried pork and high foam. Christianshavn’s Ferry Café is the epitome of Copenhagen culture and history, and an authentic culinary experience of Danish cuisine.
